Ragged Robin (Lychnis flos-cuculi)

Ragged Robin is a medium/tall perennial to 75 cm and a characteristic fen plant which flowers from May to August. It is the flowers, which give the plant its name with their narrow 'ragged' red petals giving them a tattered appearance. It is a favoured flower of butterflies but resists attack by crawling insects such as ants with its stems, which are barbed with downward pointing hairs. It can be found in most parts of Northern Ireland.
