Meadowsweet (Filipendula ulmaria)
Meadowsweet is a common fen plant found growing amongst other
tall herbs. It is a tall hairless perennial, forming extensive
stands, to 1m or more. From June to October it is covered in
clumps of small, sweet smelling, white flowers. Its leaves are
made up from 2 - 5 leaflets, which are green above but silvery
below. The flowers do not develop where the plant is in shade
and it is absent from permanently waterlogged ground. It is
common throughout Northern Ireland.
