Lesser Tussock Sedge (Carex diandra)

Lesser Tussock-sedge is a medium sized sedge that occupies fens and is often found on the margins of pools and in swampy areas. It grows to about 60cm in individual stems surrounded by several grass-like leaves. Each stem terminates in a dark brown flower spike. Despite its name it does not normally grow in tussocks but as individual tufted plants. Its distribution is scattered throughout most of Northern Ireland.
