Yellow Iris or Flag Iris (Iris pseudacorus)

The Yellow Iris or Flag Iris as it sometimes known is common in on the margins of ponds and lakes and other wet places. The stems are erect standing up to 1.5m with broad, sword shaped leaves of about the same height. The bright yellow flowers appear between June and August comprising three small inner and three larger outer petals. It is widespread and common throughout Northern Ireland inhabiting a wide range of wetland habitats.
