Bog Pondweed (Potamogeton polygonifolius)
Bog Pondweed grows in the shallow waters of fens and bog pools
and provides food and shelter for many forms of animal life.
It is a simple plant and shows few characteristics to distinguish
it from several other types of pondweed. The rounded leaves
float on or just below the waters surface, where they can catch
glimpses of sunlight. Below the raft of leaves is a network
of rhizomes and branching stems. This species is widespread
in Northern Ireland.
