Wolly-hair Moss (Racomitrium lanuginosum)

Wolly-hair Moss is a moss that is particularly suited to exposed upland blanket bogs. Its common name refers to its high degree of branching and dense covering of, greyish green, leaves with a long hair tip. It typically grows in mountainous regions where it forms patches on boulders often near to flowing water but also grows in mats of up to 1m diameter on expanses of peat. It can be locally abundant where conditions are favourable.
