Common Butterwort (Pinguicula vulgaris)

Common Butterwort is a relatively inconspicuous plant of fens and blanket bogs. It is one of Irelands insectivorous plants using the rosette of leaves at the base of the stem to trap unwary insects in their in-rolled margins. Their flowering stems grow to a height of 5 - 15cm, terminating in a single violet flower, which appears from May to July. The plant is common in parts of Northern Ireland.
