Songs
In Ireland many folk songs are stories of everyday life in
rural Ireland. The annual trip to the bog to cut and harvest
turf is mentioned in a number of well-known songs and pieces
of music e.g The Geese in the Bog.
The many emigrants who left Ireland and reminisced about
the Irish landscape penned some familiar lyrics. Of the numerous
songs composed expressing their sentiments ‘The Old Bog
Road’ is one of the most familiar.
