Drumcrow is an important site because
of its diverse fen flora. Fens are wetlands that are rapidly
disappearing from our countryside due to drainage, infilling
and nutrient enrichment.
Drumcrow contains a number of wetland habitats including fen, fen meadow, wet
grassland and open water. The fen is dominated by sedges and rushes along with
flowering plants such as Meadowsweet , Lesser Spearwort, and Cuckoo Flower. The
fen Meadow contains Sedges and grasses along with attractive flowering plants
such as Devil's-bit Scabious, Marsh Violet, and Meadow Thistle.
Drains running through the site contain wetland plants such as Water-plantain,
Creeping Yellow-cress, and Fine-leaved Water-dropwort.
Drumcrow also contains a number of rare plants such as Royal Fern and Common
Meadow-rue.
