Peatland

Location - Creggandevesky; Termonmaguirk; Omagh.

Description
This area of land was reclaimed in 1985, with the possibility that some material may have been removed. The circle sits on the edge of a boggy terrace with higher ground to north and south. The composition of the circle is not particularly distinctive or typical of such sites. 8 stones are arranged in an approximate circle. 3 of these are upright. The remaining 5 are boulders rather than erect stones. There is no trace of the 2 standing stones.

Description 3
to the north, and the lowlands of east Tyrone stretch away to the southeast. This site was reported by the owner, who observed it during turf cutting. The stones are somewhat uncharacteristic of stone circles in the area, being boulder shaped. However, 16 firmly bedded stones, ranging 0.25-0.55m high and 2 very equal diameters,11.5m along opposing axes, independently establish the validity of this site.

This site was gradually uncovered in peat cutting in the late 1970s & early 80s. There are 2 circles, one lying 0.5m east of the other & a cairn on slightly higher ground to the south of the west circle. An incident with a bulldozer removed a few stones from the northwest arc of the east circle, 4 stones from the northeast arc of the west circle & 2 from its west arc. The east circle is 10.5m E-W x 11.5m N-S. The west circle has not fully emerged from bog & is 11.5m N-S. The cairn is c.6m diam. & 1m high.

Description 3
This site consists of a stone circle, approx. 7m diam., the majority of which is hidden by bog. Five of the stones of the circle are visible in cut-away The site is overlooked by a small north-south ridge to the west & by Cregganconroe Hill to the southwest. The site consists of 10 or 11 stones set upright against the east side of an earthen field boundary where they form an undulating line. They range in height 0.9m-1.2m. As they seem to be incorporated into the boundary & are not firm in the ground, they are probably the displaced remains of a stone circle. On the 1854, 1906 & 1936 ordinance survey 6" maps the location of a stone circle is noted.
