Location - Broughderg; Lissan; Co.
Tyrone.
Description
In a large expanse of south-sloping blanket bog just south of the Derry
border. The field wall is visible protruding from the base of a south
west facing turf bank. The profile of the collapsed wall shows it to be
c.3m wide & reaching a height of c.0.5m. Some of the wall stones are
visible at the base of the turf bank. In the cutaway bog to the west,
the bog cover is thin, 0.2-0.3m deep, & the wall is only traceable
for a distance of approx. 5m. In the deep bog the wall continues for approx.
10m curving slightly north as it continues into the uncut bog. There is
a cairn, possible a pre-bog field clearance cairn & with the wall
may be part of a much more extensive pre-bog archaeological farming landscape.
