Location - Corvally; Clare Mountain; Aghalek;
Ramoan; Moyle.
Description
High up on a south east facing slope of Knocklayd are the remains of 12
possible structures, associated field banks & an enclosure, in 3 townlands
concentrated along the 900ft contour line. The structures are mostly rectangular,
some with field banks attached. In some, doorways & internal walls
are discernible. The associated field banks are of earth & stone &
vary from quite well preserved to poorly preserved. Classification is
uncertain, but the large size of some of the structures & the linear
banks suggest that this was a permanent settlement, possibly post-medieval,
rather than a booleying site.
