Peatland

Location: Carney Hill, Co. Antrim

Description
A very small alder dugout, discovered in a peat bog. From its shape it is presumed to have been a navigable craft, and from its dimensions most probably a portable one as well. Approximately 1.44m in length, 61cm broad in the stern but tapering through an hour-glass waist to a width of about 46cm in the bow and standing 48cm tall.
This dugout is very similar to a smaller one discovered at Aghill near Cullybackey in Co.Antrim.
