Description
The body of a man dressed in a coachmans coat with brass
buttons was unearthed while building the churchyard wall in
June 1900. The body of a man in a crouched position, who appeared
to have been murdered by having his skull split by a blow from
a turf spade. The discovery triggered off a murder inquiry,
a warrant for the arrest of the would be assassin, and the eventual
disproving of the alleged identity of the body by the documentation
of his emigration to Scotland, and a death certificate to his
recent demise by a well respected local schoolmaster.
